Cambridge
and Inchbald

After graduating from Cambridge in 1987 and 5 years playing on the amateur golf circuit, Fiona decided to return to her first love of gardens and plants and did a Diploma in Garden Design at the Inchbald School of Design in London and then set up her own garden design business.

Our Journey has been rewarding and ground breaking.

In 1996 she was struck down with M.E. and with her husband and family moved to Green Island.
In 1999 she started the design business up again from Green Island and now does private commissions when time permits between opening the garden, running the nursery, leading talks and courses at the gardens and looking after their 6 children.

Chelsea Garden

Before..

This small Chelsea garden was designed with a low maintenance oriental theme.

 The Plan

There was no rear access to the garden so everything had to go through the house. Mirrors are used to give the impression of more space and the planting is for all year round interest with contrasting foliage colour, shape and textures.

  After

Large Country Garden in Dedham

The design for this garden was developed and implemented over 4 years. A virgin site, once part of an arable farm with spectacular views of Constable Country. A strong ground plan divided the space and gave structure to the previously empty site. Planting for all year interest, hedges of yew, copper beech, Eleagnus and Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' create separate areas and shelter in the previously exposed site. A series of bulbs throughout the year put on an ever changing display.

 Colchester Garden

This garden was an awkward triangular shape. It was divided up creating a generous raised eating area under a timber arbour, a children's play area with climbing frame and trampoline sunken into the ground screened by a bamboo hedge, and a seating area with brick and camomile lawn squares.

The planting is luxuriant and tropical with large tree ferns, bananas, oriental lilies and a loquat. A slate water feature sits at the corner of the arbour and is planted with Zantedeschias.

Beverley Town Garden In East Yorkshire.

Designed for an elderly couple keen to have a garden that looks good all year round. The lady is a keen plants-woman and enjoys having some unusual plants.
The length of the garden was broken up with trellis separating the secluded patio area from the rest of the garden. A 45 degree angle and curved lawn lead
the eye around the garden rather than drawing it straight to the end making the garden appear larger than it actually is.
